The MaST Center is the marine biology and aquarium facility of Highline College. Dedicated to expanding knowledge about Puget Sound, the MaST Center serves as both formal teaching institute and public learning center. We are located 4 miles south of campus at Redondo Beach with easy access to a variety of nearby habitats.

Our 2,500 square-foot facility offers public space, classroom, laboratories, offices, research areas with state-of-the-art equipment and an aquarium. The Aquarium holds over 15 tanks totaling approximately 3,000 gallons of flow-through seawater, and displays over 250 native Puget Sound marine species.

Our visit will include a 90 minute presentation called “Plankton Puzzles” with hands on participation and adapted to our age range:  “How do animals spread around Puget Sound? Why is the water so cloudy in the summer? What do barnacles eat? These are just a few of the questions students puzzle over as they use microscopes and plankton tows to look at what lives and grows in our Puget Sound water.”

In addition, we will have the opportunity to visit their gallery and aquariums.
